These are a pieces of my work process for the same interview:

An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest, I believe education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. With my passion for fashion and writing this is my future aim; to change the world and inspire it, as well as spread my appreciation for fashion as an art that encapsulates personalities, history and generations. The course I have applied for will help me achieve my career plans but must importantly, it will set my mind in right direction preparing for such a competitive industry to break into. My fervour for fashion started in my early years when I had far more interest in my mum’s fashion magazines rather than watching cartoons. I was inspired by the world of fashion and I always knew I want to be a part of something as special as this. Writing and fashion is a perfect combination for me, the two things I truly admire.
My desire to work in the industry has resulted in me producing my own fashion blog, where I have had the opportunity to develop my own creative writing style, the ability to forecast the newest trends and gathering more understanding of fashion while enjoying expressing myself and sharing my own opinion with the world. Furthermore, this gave me an idea of how to sell a written media product to an audience. In addition, I sometimes rework garments of my own as well as consistently keeping up to date with the newest issues of my favourite magazines.
My current course has given me a solid knowledge of the power of the media industry, whilst developing useful skills such as editing videos and still image products, interviewing, researching and communicating. This helped me make one of the most important decisions in my life, which was choosing the right path for myself- writing. Many people may wrestle with such a decision, especially in such an ambitious field. I know there is a risk with so many challenges ahead of me but it is a risk I am willing to take.
During my college years, I have been evolving my skills in professional fields in work experience opportunities as a photographer at high profile events like the Black and Asian Community Police Conference, the environmental Fashion Show and the Skills Show at The NEC. In addition, I was chosen to report for ‘FYI’, the college’s Staff Newsletter and work on a news programme with Joanne Malin- a professional BBC News presenter. I also saw the value in undertaking other extracurricular activities like attending a journalism workshop at Birmingham City University.
Lately, I have been working to assignment deadlines, keeping my grades high, whilst putting my heart and soul into everything. One of college units enabled me to gather detailed information about interviewing, as well as show me how my future work could look like. I had to do comprehensive secondary research about three topics, interview a professional and appropriate persons and evaluate the whole process. One of my chosen topics was ‘How to Break into the Fashion Industry’ and my interviewee was Andrew Riley- an owner and editor in-chief of “Style Birmingham” Magazine. This enlightened me about importance of doing a great amount of accurate research and the use of precise questions to collect further information, along with the difficulty and professionalism required to collaborate with high profile people.
Aside from college activities I have achieved a promotion to Supervisor of Waiting Staff at Bittersweet Promotion Company. This proves I am a reliable, responsible and confident person, with well-developed communication skills. Even though this work position is not entirely related, the skills and qualities I have acquired are transferable into my future path.
At this point in my life I can say all the failures, achievements and experiences that I have encountered both in and out of education have enabled me to become mature enough to take the next step. University will satisfy my thirst for knowledge and empower me to work with like-minded people.
